Five riding days in the Julian Alps, from Lake Bled to the Soča valley. Pokljuka, Soriška planina, the Vršič twice and Mangart, the highest road in Slovenia.
Overview
Slovenia is one of Europe's best-kept secrets for road cycling: smooth roads, alpine passes and turquoise rivers between the Alps and the Adriatic. We start with two nights at Lake Bled and ride the Pokljuka plateau, then cross the mountains over Soriška planina to Bovec, in the Soča valley, for four nights. From there we ride the Vršič from both sides, the quiet climbs over the Italian border and the Mangart road to 2,055 m.
Most days are 100 to 150 km with 2,000 to 3,200 m of climbing, measured on our own routes. It's not a race: two riding groups, one guide for every eight riders, and the van never far away.

Why Velodrom
We run our trips the way we like to ride: a van that is never far away, food worth stopping for and people who know these roads. This is what makes a Velodrom trip different.

Coffee stops, long dinners and people you'll want to ride with again. Most of our riders come back for the next trip.

Climb at your own pace. We regroup at set points along the route, and the van is never far away with spares and your extra layers.

A photographer rides with us. You get the full album after the trip: you on the climbs, not just the view.

The van sets up a real feed stop on every ride: sandwiches, fruit, smoothies, crisps and cold drinks under the Velodrom tent.

Every evening at one table with the group and our guides. Breakfasts and dinners are included at both hotels.

Bring your own or ride an ENVE Melee from our fleet, built and fitted for you before day one.
Hotels
Two nights at Lake Bled and four in Bovec. You unpack twice, and your luggage moves between hotels in the van while you ride.

Weather
Early summer in the Julian Alps is warm in the valleys and about seven degrees cooler on the Vršič. The Soča valley is one of the wettest corners of the Alps, so afternoon showers are common: always carry a rain jacket, and the van carries your extra layers.
Averages for 2015–2024 from Open-Meteo. Mountain weather changes fast, so check the forecast the week before.
Know before you go
What to expect from the riding, and what to pack.
Avid intermediate riders comfortable with back-to-back days of 100–150 km and 2,000–3,200 m. Two riding groups mean everyone climbs at their own pace.
Three stages cross into Italy and back. Carry your ID or passport in your pocket on every ride.
Climbing gears (34×32 or easier), a rain jacket, arm warmers and a gilet for the descents, and front and rear lights for the unlit tunnels on the Mangart road.
