Steel-O-Flex double protection

Overlapping steel sleeves 15 mm in diameter wrap the steel cable inside. ABUS says the sleeves give Steel-O-Flex locks significantly higher security than common cable locks while staying flexible.

Snap Cage bracket

ABUS’s Snap Cage bracket carries the lock on the bike and takes it on and off in one hand movement. SCMU mounts to the seat post, frame or rack stay (15–55 mm) with straps, tool-free; SCLL mounts under the saddle to the saddle clamp bolt (5–8 mm).

What does ABUS security level 5 mean?

ABUS rates its bike locks on a scale that tops out at 15 (the BORDO GRANIT 6500K folding lock is a 15). The Steel-O-Flex Microflex and Tresorflex are rated 5: above ABUS’s plain coil cables (Numero/Primo are 3) thanks to the steel sleeves, but ABUS still positions them as good protection at low theft risk, for entry-level and children’s bikes.

Microflex 85 cm or 120 cm?

The 85 cm is enough to lock the frame to a post or rack; the 120 cm leaves room to also take in a wheel or reach a thicker object. ABUS weights: 85 cm 540 g alone, 580 g with SCMU; 120 cm 760 g with either the SCMU or the SCLL bracket. All have 15 mm steel sleeves and a key cylinder.

Which bracket: SCMU or SCLL?

Both are ABUS Snap Cage brackets that carry the lock on the bike. SCMU (Snap Cage MU) straps to the seat post, frame or rack stay, 15–55 mm in diameter, without tools. SCLL (Snap Cage LL) mounts under the saddle, on the saddle clamp bolt (5–8 mm). The version “without bracket” is the lock alone, to carry in a bag or pocket.

Key or combination: which ABUS cable lock should I choose?

It is the same protection either way: ABUS rates the Primo 5510K (key) and Numero 5510C (combination) both 3, and the Microflex 6615K (key) and Tresorflex 6615C (combination) both 5. A combination lock means no key to lose and, as ABUS notes, suits a bike shared by several people; a key lock means there is no code to remember.
