E-bike approval

Continental draws on more than 100 years of moped and motorcycle tyres for its e-bike tyres. Tyres marked E25 are approved for e-bikes up to 25 km/h; those marked E50 are also certified for S-Pedelecs up to 50 km/h. Continental says their structure gives high puncture protection and low rolling resistance, and protects against the premature wear caused by the extra driving force.

Race King, Cross King or Mountain King: wire or ShieldWall?

Same tread, different build. The wire versions are Continental’s basic tube-type tyres: a wire bead on a 3/180 TPI casing, with no named compound or puncture-protection layer, approved for e-bikes up to 25 km/h (E25). The ShieldWall versions are foldable and Tubeless Ready, with PureGrip compound and the ShieldWall System all-round puncture protection. Continental now presents the Dubnital, Trinotal and Magnotal as the successors to the Race King, Cross King and Mountain King.

Race King, Cross King or Mountain King?

Continental’s three classic MTB treads, from fastest to grippiest. Race King: a competition tyre at home in the Cross Country World Cup and marathons — low rolling resistance, good self-damping and low weight. Cross King: the all-rounder, a versatile competition and trail tyre that is sure-footed in turns and rolls smoothly on any terrain. Mountain King: the trail companion for full-suspension bikes, with snappy central knobs and grippy outer knobs for maximum grip.

Can I run this Continental tyre tubeless?

No. Continental lists it as a tube-type tyre, so use it with an inner tube. If you want tubeless, look for Continental’s TR (Tubeless Ready) models, such as the Grand Prix 5000 S TR or AS TR on the road.

Can I use this tyre on an e-bike?

Yes, on e-bikes up to 25 km/h: Continental’s catalogue marks it E25, its approval for e-bikes up to 25 km/h. For S-Pedelecs up to 50 km/h Continental requires an E50-marked tyre, such as the CONTACT Plus.
