Terra Trail ProTection or Terra Trail ShieldWall?

Same Terra Trail tread — fast in a straight line, with a large, robust shoulder tread for control on technical trails — and both are 3/180 TPI, Tubeless Ready and hookless compatible to their limited maximum pressure (Continental). The difference is the build: the ProTection version pairs BlackChili compound with Continental’s ProTection layer, the ShieldWall version pairs PureGrip compound with the ShieldWall System. Continental makes the ProTection in limited sizes only and points to the ShieldWall for further sizes; it does not rank the two protection layers.

Terra Speed or Terra Trail?

Continental’s two gravel treads. The Terra Speed has a shallower, continuous hexagonal tread for fast riding on drier, less technical trails and road sections. The Terra Trail rolls similarly in a straight line but has a much larger, more robust shoulder tread for control when the trail gets technical. The versions we stock also differ in build: Terra Speed with BlackChili compound and ProTection, Terra Trail with PureGrip compound and the ShieldWall System. Both are Tubeless Ready and hookless compatible to their limited maximum pressure (Continental).

Is this Continental tyre hookless compatible?

Yes, within limits. Continental’s catalogue states that this tyre is hookless compatible to its limited maximum pressure and asks you to check the wheel manufacturer’s instructions and the tyre packaging. The packaging lists the maximum inflation pressure and the maximum inner rim width, which can differ between hooked and hookless rims.

Q: How do I set up a Continental TR tyre tubeless — and can I use an inner tube?

Both work: Continental designs its Tubeless Ready (TR) tyres to run tubeless or with an inner tube. For the first tubeless mounting it recommends at least 30 ml of Conti RevoSealant per tyre; spin the wheel to spread the sealant, pump to the allowed maximum pressure, and check the pressure again before your next ride.

BlackChili Compound

Continental’s signature tread compound and its answer to the balance between grip and rolling resistance. Continental says the latest polymers, specially developed carbon-black particles and filler materials give it its performance on road, gravel and mountain-bike tyres, from time trials to downhill.

ProTection

An extra all-round puncture-protection layer that protects tread and sidewalls equally. Continental says it is 25% lighter and gives 30% more puncture protection than the DuraSkin-protected predecessors, with better rolling resistance and damping, and pairs it with its Revolution Tubeless Ready bead for easier mounting; it recommends Conti RevoSealant for tubeless sealing.

E-bike approval

Continental draws on more than 100 years of moped and motorcycle tyres for its e-bike tyres. Tyres marked E25 are approved for e-bikes up to 25 km/h; those marked E50 are also certified for S-Pedelecs up to 50 km/h. Continental says their structure gives high puncture protection and low rolling resistance, and protects against the premature wear caused by the extra driving force.
