Carbon sole

The sole plate is made of carbon fibre rather than nylon or carbon-reinforced nylon. Carbon is stiffer and lighter, so less of your effort is lost to flex; the brand’s stiffness index is in the spec table.

Individual, secure support

Individual, secure support

A dual closure adjusts instep and forefoot separately. Fizik says the Powerstrap at the instep contains the foot at the high cadences common off-road and is crash-proof, while the Li2 BOA dial at the forefoot fine-tunes the fit.

Stiff sole, trail-ready tread

Stiff sole, trail-ready tread

A redesigned X1 carbon outsole with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio (Fizik stiffness index 10) for power transfer. Generous studs and a rubber coating over the whole surface, midfoot included, give traction when you get off the bike.

Lightweight, breathable, tough

Lightweight, breathable, tough

A polyurethane-laminated material over a translucent mesh. Fizik says the construction saves weight while staying breathable and tear-resistant; its listed weight is 297 g.

BOA Li2 Fit System

A premium Li2 BOA dial: Fizik describes it as bi-directional and micro-adjustable, for a precision fit with even pressure distribution. On the Ferox models it closes the forefoot under a Powerstrap; on the Proxy it is the only closure, with BOA textile lace guides.

Frequently asked questions

Answered from this product’s published information. Questions about orders or anything else go to our team.

Vento Ferox Carbon or Ferox 2 Carbon?

Same idea, two generations. Both have a Powerstrap plus BOA Li2 closure and a full-carbon outsole at Fizik stiffness index 10, and weigh almost the same (297 g vs 295 g per Fizik). The Ferox 2 changes the fit: a straighter axis and reduced drop, an expanded toe box, a perforated Airprene bootie, and a wider, lower carbon plate. If the original fits you well, it is still the same race shoe; if you want more room at the toes, pick the Ferox 2.

Ferox or Proxy?

Both are Fizik off-road race shoes; the difference is sole and closure. The Ferox models use a full-carbon outsole at stiffness index 10 with a Powerstrap plus a BOA Li2 dial (297 g / 295 g per Fizik). The Proxy uses a carbon-reinforced nylon X3 outsole at stiffness index 8 and a single BOA Li2 dial with textile guides (326 g). Pick the Ferox for maximum stiffness and hold when racing; the Proxy if you want a slightly more forgiving sole and a simpler one-dial closure.

What’s different about the Team Amani and Pas Normal Studios Ferox?

The shoe itself is the same. Fizik’s Team Amani page is a limited-edition colourway inspired by the wildlife of Team Amani’s home country, Kenya, with exactly the same specifications as the standard Vento Ferox Carbon. The Fizik x Pas Normal Studios pairs are collaboration colourways of the same model; Fizik no longer lists them on its site.

Which size should I get?

Go by foot length, not by the size of your other shoes. Stand on a sheet of paper, measure from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe, and find that length in Fizik’s size guide (the “Size guide” link next to the sizes): 270 mm is EU 42, 277 mm is EU 43. Fizik makes half sizes, and lists all these models as regular fit. Which sizes are in stock varies by colour, so check the size selector.

Which pedals and cleats do these shoes take?

Two-bolt cleats, the SPD-type system used by mountain-bike and gravel pedals. Fizik lists the outsole of the Ferox, Proxy, Atlas, Artica and Nanuq as “Clipless off-road” with adjustable cleat position, and the Beat as SPD-compatible with a two-bolt cleat track hidden in the sole. If your pedals are three-bolt road pedals (Shimano SPD-SL, Look Kéo), you need a road shoe instead.

How to measure

Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe and measure the distance in centimetres. Measure both feet and go by the longer one.
