Tempo Overcurve R4 or Tempo Decos Carbon?

Choose by sole and closure. The Decos Carbon has a full-carbon R3 sole at stiffness index 10 and a bi-directional BOA Li2 dial, and Fizik lists it at 205–218 g. The Overcurve R4 has the R4 nylon sole with 15% carbon (index 7), a BOA L6 dial and the Overcurve ankle collar, at 230 g. For the stiffest pedalling platform, the Decos; for all-round riding with a little more give, the R4 — which is also the one we stock in a Wide version.

How much does the Tempo Decos Carbon weigh?

Fizik lists 205 g and 218 g for the two production versions of the Decos Carbon it sells; both have the same full-carbon R3 sole (stiffness index 10), BOA Li2 dial and PU-laminated mesh upper, and Fizik describes them with identical copy. Our colours come from both versions, so we quote 205–218 g.

How stiff are Fizik’s Tempo and Transiro soles?

Fizik rates each sole on a stiffness index where higher is stiffer. Here: the R5 nylon composite sole (Tempo Powerstrap R5, Tempo Artica GTX, Transiro Hydra) is 6, the R4 carbon-injected nylon sole (Tempo Overcurve R4 and R4 Wide) is 7 and the full-carbon R3 (Tempo Decos Carbon) is 10. Fizik describes the R5 as supple and comfortable over long distances, the R4 as a balance of comfort and pedalling efficiency, and the R3 as a stiff sole for optimal power transfer.

Why does Fizik set the cleat further back?

On its newer soles — the R3 of the Decos Carbon, the R4 of the Overcurve R4 and the redesigned R5 of the Artica GTX and Transiro Hydra — Fizik places the cleat slightly further towards the heel than traditional placement. Fizik says this improves pedalling efficiency and reduces knee compression, especially in aggressive, forward aero positions. If you are coming from another shoe, re-check your cleat set-up rather than copying the old position.

Which size of Fizik road shoe should I buy?

Measure your foot from heel to longest toe and look the length up in Fizik’s size guide, which maps foot length to EU, US and UK sizes — 270 mm is EU 42, 277 mm is EU 43. Every Tempo and Transiro model uses the same table, Wide versions included: Wide adds volume, not length. Fizik makes half sizes; we stock whole EU sizes.

Carbon sole

The sole plate is made of carbon fibre rather than nylon or carbon-reinforced nylon. Carbon is stiffer and lighter, so less of your effort is lost to flex; the brand’s stiffness index is in the spec table.

Minimal, pure

Fizik calls the Decos its minimalist design at its finest: a deliberately simple performance road shoe for the pure riding experience, from big-mountain days to granfondos, made for riders outside the pro peloton.

Simply supportive

A resilient polyurethane-laminated material over a comfortable mesh, which Fizik says reduces yield and gives long-lasting support where the foot needs it most.

R3 carbon outsole

A full-carbon outsole with an updated layup that Fizik says saves weight without losing stiffness: index 10. Two wide vent inlets and deep internal channels move cooling air, and the recessed cleat position aims to improve pedalling efficiency and reduce knee compression, especially in aggressive, forward aero positions.

BOA Li2 dial

A single bi-directional BOA Li2 dial: it tightens and loosens in small steps, so Fizik says the fit is practical and quickly fine-tuned.

The Tempo Decos Carbon is the stiffest and lightest of the Tempo shoes we stock: a full-carbon R3 sole at stiffness index 10, a single bi-directional BOA Li2 dial and 205–218 g by Fizik’s figures. Fizik built it as a minimalist performance shoe for riders outside the pro peloton — big-mountain days, granfondos, hard group rides. If you prefer a sole with more give or need a wide fit, the Overcurve R4 and R4 Wide are the better match.
