Is the Powerstrap Aeroweave X a road shoe?

No. Despite the Vento name, Fizik makes it as an off-road racing shoe for XC and fast gravel races: its X1 carbon outsole is a clipless off-road sole for 2-bolt cleats, with studs and a full rubber coating for walking. If you ride road pedals with 3-bolt cleats, the equivalent is the Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave.

Does the Aeroweave upper soak up water?

Fizik says it doesn’t: on the Powerstrap Aeroweave X page it states that Aeroweave doesn’t absorb water on wet, rainy rides, so the shoe stays light and dries quickly. The same page calls it the most breathable off-road racing shoe in Fizik’s range, so expect a cool shoe rather than a warm one in cold weather.

Powerstrap or BOA dials — which Fizik closure should I pick?

Fizik’s Powerstrap wraps a ribbon around the foot and closes it with two straps, adjusting instep and midfoot separately; it’s the closure on the lightest shoes here, and Fizik describes it as crash-proof. The Dual-Dial Li2 BOA system (Vega Carbon, Lyra, PNS Mechanism) also adjusts instep and midfoot separately, but with dials that turn in both directions. Pick Powerstrap for minimum weight and simplicity, BOA if you like fine-tuning the fit with a dial.

How does Fizik sizing work, and do you have half sizes?

Fizik sizes its shoes by foot length: measure your foot in millimetres, heel to longest toe, and read the size from Fizik’s table in the size guide — 263.5 mm is EU 41, 270 mm is EU 42, 277 mm is EU 43. Fizik makes these road shoes from EU 36 to 48, with half sizes from 37.5 to 46.5. We stock whole sizes only, so compare your measurement with the table before ordering.

Carbon sole

The sole plate is made of carbon fibre rather than nylon or carbon-reinforced nylon. Carbon is stiffer and lighter, so less of your effort is lost to flex; the brand’s stiffness index is in the spec table.

Off-road racing shoe

Fizik calls it the lightest and most breathable off-road racing shoe in its range, for demanding XC tracks and fast gravel races. It says Aeroweave does not absorb water, so the shoe stays light and dries quickly in the rain, and describes the Powerstrap as a crash-proof closure.

Aeroweave evolution

The second-generation Aeroweave woven fabric interlaces nylon fibres with thermoplastic polymer filaments for an even lighter shoe that keeps its tenacity, giving the strength and support fast-paced off-road racing needs.

Powerstrap

A ribbon wraps around the foot and is secured by just two straps, instead of a Velcro strap that only pulls the two sides together. Instep and midfoot adjust separately, and the straps have been streamlined to be lighter and stronger — Fizik’s line is “you’ll feel the performance, not the pinch”.

X1 carbon outsole with grip

A race-ready carbon plate with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio (index 10) sends power straight to the pedals. The X1 outsole adds generous studs and a rubber coating over the whole surface, midfoot included, for traction when you have to get off the bike.
