Gel 30CHO or Unusual Gel 45CHO?

The 30CHO is Santa Madre’s everyday 50 ml gel: 30 g at a 1:0.5 ratio with 100 mg of sodium. The Unusual Gel 45CHO carries 45 g at a 1:1 ratio with 200 mg of sodium, for high-intake strategies (90 g/h or more). Both come with or without 100 mg of caffeine.

Unusual Gel 60CHO or 45CHO?

The 60CHO is the bigger dose (60 g, 70 ml) at a 1:0.8 ratio from four carbohydrates, caffeine-free only. The 45CHO is a smaller, very liquid 1:1 gel with a caffeinated version, which Santa Madre recommends for running, trail and high-intensity events. Both carry 200 mg of sodium.

Do I need extra salts with the Unusual Gel 45CHO?

Maybe less. Each gel carries 200 mg of sodium, which Santa Madre says can save you taking mineral salts separately, depending on your strategy, the heat and how much you sweat.

OFF CAF or 100 CAF — which should I take?

Same formula; the 100 CAF version adds 100 mg of caffeine per serving (Santa Madre compares it to about one and a half coffees). Try caffeine in training first and count every caffeinated product you take that day.

Can I take 90–100 g of carbohydrate per hour straight away?

Santa Madre says no: high-carbohydrate strategies need an adaptation period — training the digestive system to work during exercise. Build up the amount per hour in training before trying it in a race.

Ratio 1:1
