Tubeless plugs (mechas)

Sticky plugs pushed into the hole with X-Sauce’s insertion tool, leaving both ends outside the tyre. X-Sauce says they are sticky enough to need no glue, so its latest kits leave the adhesive out to pollute less.

Three plug thicknesses

1.5 mm plugs for sidewall pinches where the casing is thin (M-0); 3.5 mm, the most-used size for medium cuts (M-2, M-1); and 6 mm for severe cuts over 10 mm (M-1). Each kit brings the matching tool and a cutter.

M-0, M-1 or M-2: which X-Sauce kit do I need?

M-0 (mini): ten 1.5 mm plugs, for pinches in the sidewall where the casing is thin. M-2 (small): five 3.5 mm plugs — X-Sauce’s best seller, for marathon and rally riders, the medium size that gets you out of most trouble. M-1 (large): five 3.5 mm plus five 6 mm plugs with both tools, for enduro and DH, where the 6 mm plugs fix cuts over 10 mm.

How do I use a tubeless plug?

Don’t push it all the way in: X-Sauce says to leave part of the plug sticking out, with both ends outside the tyre. If the tail hits the bike as the wheel turns, trim it with the included cutter — but never flush with the casing; leave about 4 mm, like one more tread knob.

Can I put more than one plug in a big hole?

Yes — X-Sauce says it is sometimes needed for a complete repair, though a second plug in the same hole is harder to fit. For cuts over 10 mm the M-1’s 6 mm plugs are the intended fix.

Do I need glue?

No. X-Sauce says the plugs are sticky enough on their own; glue is optional and doesn’t hurt if you have it. Its latest kits no longer include adhesive because it pollutes and isn’t essential.
