Is the GameChanger 2.0 MIPS worth it over the standard version?

It is the same aero shell with Mips added to the padding, a magnetic buckle, and 25 g more in size M (290 g vs 265 g). It is also the version Virginia Tech's Helmet Lab tested: four stars, score 12.448 (2024, lower is better). The standard GameChanger 2.0 has not been rated, so if an independent safety result matters to you, the MIPS is the one with evidence behind it.

GameChanger 2.0 or AirBreaker 2.0?

Both are ABUS race helmets developed with professional riders. The GameChanger 2.0 is the aero one: a wider rear, an AeroBlade with a grid structure that adapts to speed and crosswind, and the AirBoost inlet — 265 g in size M. The AirBreaker 2.0 is the lightweight, ventilated one: large vents, an AeroBlade in carbon-injected material, 215 g in M. Flat, fast racing favours the GameChanger; long climbs and heat favour the AirBreaker.

Mips Air Node

On the GameChanger 2.0 MIPS, a low-friction layer attached to the inside of the padding counteracts rotational forces in a fall. ABUS notes it does not interfere with the ventilation and adds little weight: 290 g in M against 265 g for the standard version.

AeroBlade

A component at the upper rear of the helmet that reinforces the structure and cleans up the airflow. On the GameChanger 2.0 its grid structure adapts to different speeds, crosswind angles and head positions; on the AirBreaker 2.0 it is made from carbon-fibre-injected material to add stiffness without weight.

Forced Air Cooling

The vents are linked by internal channels that pull incoming air through the helmet and around the head, rather than letting it simply pass over it. On the GameChanger 2.0 an AirBoost inlet at the front feeds the system.
