Dubnital, Trinotal or Magnotal?

Pick by terrain, from fastest to grippiest (Continental). Dubnital, the ‘Master of Speed’: dry to damp conditions on rocky, hardpack and medium-loose soils, for cross-country and down-country at speed — it supersedes the Race King. Trinotal: versatile on hard and light mixed soils, dry or damp, engineered to corner and brake better when it gets loose — it supersedes the Cross King. Magnotal: dry to wet conditions on hard, loose or muddy soils, for aggressive down-country, all-mountain and trail riding — it supersedes the Mountain King and Trail King and, Continental says, closes the gap to its gravity range. Dubnital and Trinotal come in Race or Trail casing with Grip or Rapid compound; Magnotal in Trail casing with Grip or Soft compound.

Endurance, Soft or SuperSoft?

Continental’s gravity compounds, from longest-lasting to grippiest. Endurance balances grip and endurance, with high durability and good rolling resistance. Soft is for descending-oriented trail and enduro riding: high grip with reasonable rolling resistance, run front and rear or on the front only for extra grip in trail and all-mountain riding. SuperSoft is for downhill and enduro where descending is the focus — for riders with a 100% focus on grip, traction and control.

Is this Continental tyre hookless compatible?

Yes, within limits. Continental’s catalogue states that this tyre is hookless compatible to its limited maximum pressure and asks you to check the wheel manufacturer’s instructions and the tyre packaging. The packaging lists the maximum inflation pressure and the maximum inner rim width, which can differ between hooked and hookless rims.

Are the Cross King and Mountain King ProTection still current?

No. The ProTection versions (BlackChili compound) are no longer in Continental’s 2026/27 catalogue: Continental says the Trinotal supersedes the Cross King, and presents the Magnotal as the next evolution that supersedes the Mountain King and Trail King. The Cross King, Mountain King and Race King ShieldWall (PureGrip compound) remain in the catalogue. Our ProTection tyres are genuine Continental stock of the previous generation.

Q: How do I set up a Continental TR tyre tubeless — and can I use an inner tube?

Both work: Continental designs its Tubeless Ready (TR) tyres to run tubeless or with an inner tube. For the first tubeless mounting it recommends at least 30 ml of Conti RevoSealant per tyre; spin the wheel to spread the sealant, pump to the allowed maximum pressure, and check the pressure again before your next ride.

Soft compound

“Grippy and compliant”: designed for descending-oriented riding in trail and enduro. Continental says the Soft compound offers high levels of grip with reasonable rolling resistance, and can be run front and rear or on the front wheel only for more grip in trail and all-mountain riding.

Trail casing

An adaptive and robust one-ply construction (3/330 TPI), its build and fabric tailored for robustness and ground adaptation, with a reinforced sidewall and crown for demanding down-country and trail riding — with, Continental says, superb adaptivity and puncture protection. Tubeless Ready and hookless compatible, with a foldable aramid bead.

Magnotal tread design

A newly designed tread that, Continental says, maximises cornering and braking grip while minimising rolling resistance, with durable lugs and tighter spacing: increased centre studs with more void volume for mixed soils, siped transition studs and reinforced, slatted shoulder studs for cornering stability. Built for dry to wet conditions on hard, loose or muddy soils.

Tubeless Ready (TR)

Continental says its TR casing is robust against damage and penetration from foreign objects, and that TR tyres can be run tubeless or with an inner tube. For the first tubeless mounting Continental recommends at least 30 ml of Conti RevoSealant per tyre: spin the wheel to spread it, pump to the allowed maximum pressure and check the pressure again before the next ride.

E-bike approval

Continental draws on more than 100 years of moped and motorcycle tyres for its e-bike tyres. Tyres marked E25 are approved for e-bikes up to 25 km/h; those marked E50 are also certified for S-Pedelecs up to 50 km/h. Continental says their structure gives high puncture protection and low rolling resistance, and protects against the premature wear caused by the extra driving force.

The Magnotal Trail Soft is the grippier Magnotal, for down-country and all-mountain adventures in dry to wet conditions on hard, loose or muddy soils. Continental’s Soft compound gives high grip with reasonable rolling resistance for descending-oriented riding, and can be run front and rear or on the front only; the Trail casing keeps it light and robust. Continental’s successor to the Mountain King; the Grip version rolls easier.
