They are made for different races. The Kunee is Fizik’s time-trial and triathlon helmet: a long teardrop shell, corrugated side panels and a wraparound magnetic visor, 400 g, no Mips. The Kudo Aero is an aero road helmet with front vents and rear extractors, Mips Air Node and an included USB rear light, 290 g, rated four stars by Virginia Tech (12.72). Racing alone against the clock in the aero position: Kunee. Road races, group rides and training: Kudo Aero.

Does the Kunee have Mips, and has Virginia Tech rated it?

No to both. Fizik lists no Mips system on the Kunee; it is certified to the EU (CE) and US CPSC impact standards, with an in-moulded EPS-PC structure and a one-piece polycarbonate outer shell. Virginia Tech has not tested it (checked 30 September 2026), so there is no star rating to show. If rotational-impact protection matters most, Fizik’s Kudo, Kudo Aero and Kassis use Mips Air Node.

Can I ride the Kunee without the visor?

Yes. The visor attaches with magnetic anchors and comes off instantly, and Fizik says the helmet still performs aerodynamically when you wear regular sunglasses instead; it lists the Kunee as sunglass compatible. Fizik’s specification list also names a mirrored visor, an included clear visor and a helmet case.

Which Kunee size do I need?

Measure your head circumference just above the eyebrows and ears. Fizik makes the Kunee in two sizes: S/M 54–58 cm (21.2–22.8 in) and M/L 58–61 cm (22.8–24 in). At exactly 58 cm you are on the line between the two and Fizik gives no tie-break, so try both if you can; the crown adjustment then fine-tunes the fit. Fizik’s road helmets use a different three-size chart.

What is the Kunee Arche-Type?

A limited-edition finish, not a different helmet. Fizik’s Arche-Type versions have a translucent polycarbonate shell that reveals the EPS core underneath, a dark grey colourway with contrasting matte and gloss finishes, outlined Fizik logos and technical text naming what each part of the helmet does — a prototype, as Fizik puts it, that reached its final form. Weight (400 g), certifications, visor and features listed are the same as the standard Kunee.

CFD research

Years of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research, plus real-world wind-tunnel and outdoor testing, shaped the Kunee’s sleek profile, Fizik says. It was developed with world-class athletes and experts to adapt to each rider’s body across a variety of racing conditions.

Aerodynamic efficiency

The Kunee is designed for real-world riding, Fizik says: aerodynamic efficiency and stability in constantly changing winds, whatever the athlete’s size or shape, to streamline airflow, cut resistance and hold speed — for time trialists and triathletes alike. It is certified to both EU and CPSC impact standards.

Teardrop shape

A sleek surface keeps the air attached and a minimised frontal volume reduces drag, Fizik says. The teardrop design follows the rider’s body for smooth flow and low-pressure separation, and the reduced volume and light construction add comfort and stability so you can hold your position — and your pace — for longer.

Corrugated side panels

Many aero helmets widen to shelter the rider’s shoulders, which adds bulk and resistance. The Kunee instead uses corrugated side panels to keep turbulent air close to the helmet, so the wind moves smoothly around the shoulders and down the rider’s back without increasing overall volume, according to Fizik.

Wraparound magnetic visor

The Kunee’s visor extends across the sides of the helmet for better frontal and peripheral vision. It attaches instantly with magnetic anchors, and even with the visor removed, Fizik says the helmet still performs aerodynamically when worn with regular sunglasses.

Honeycomb front vent, quiet sides

A frontal ventilation system above the visor, with a honeycomb grid, cools the head while reducing air friction, Fizik says, for comfort and performance in an aggressive riding position. Engineered low-pressure areas on the sides reduce wind noise.
