Can I ride the Transiro Hydra without socks?

That is what it is designed for. Fizik says the 3D air-mesh upper is highly breathable to avoid overly sweaty feet and calls it an optimal solution for athletes who race sockless. The single Velcro strap is there for fast, worry-free transitions.

Transiro Hydra or Transiro Hydra Aeroweave Carbon?

They share the single-strap tri closure but not the sole or the upper. The Transiro Hydra has a 3D air-mesh upper and the R5 nylon sole (stiffness index 6). The Hydra Aeroweave Carbon has a woven Aeroweave upper and the carbon R2 sole, which Fizik rates 10 and calls the most responsive in its range. Fizik lists both at 233 g. We stock the Transiro Hydra.

How stiff are Fizik’s Tempo and Transiro soles?

Fizik rates each sole on a stiffness index where higher is stiffer. Here: the R5 nylon composite sole (Tempo Powerstrap R5, Tempo Artica GTX, Transiro Hydra) is 6, the R4 carbon-injected nylon sole (Tempo Overcurve R4 and R4 Wide) is 7 and the full-carbon R3 (Tempo Decos Carbon) is 10. Fizik describes the R5 as supple and comfortable over long distances, the R4 as a balance of comfort and pedalling efficiency, and the R3 as a stiff sole for optimal power transfer.

Why does Fizik set the cleat further back?

On its newer soles — the R3 of the Decos Carbon, the R4 of the Overcurve R4 and the redesigned R5 of the Artica GTX and Transiro Hydra — Fizik places the cleat slightly further towards the heel than traditional placement. Fizik says this improves pedalling efficiency and reduces knee compression, especially in aggressive, forward aero positions. If you are coming from another shoe, re-check your cleat set-up rather than copying the old position.

Which size of Fizik road shoe should I buy?

Measure your foot from heel to longest toe and look the length up in Fizik’s size guide, which maps foot length to EU, US and UK sizes — 270 mm is EU 42, 277 mm is EU 43. Every Tempo and Transiro model uses the same table, Wide versions included: Wide adds volume, not length. Fizik makes half sizes; we stock whole EU sizes.

Quick transitions

Fizik treats transitions as triathlon’s fourth discipline: the Hydra closes with a single Velcro strap for fast, worry-free changes, and the enveloping strap gives the foot support needed to stay efficient in every race situation.

3D air mesh

The upper is 3D air-mesh fabric, highly breathable to avoid overly sweaty feet; Fizik calls it an optimal choice for athletes who race sockless.

R5 outsole

The redesigned nylon R5 outsole offers comfort and moderate stiffness (index 6). The cleat is set slightly further back than traditional settings to improve efficiency and reduce knee compression, and a wide vent inlet brings in cooling air.

Description

The Transiro Hydra is Fizik’s triathlon bike shoe for fast, simple transitions: a single Velcro strap, a highly breathable 3D air-mesh upper that Fizik calls ideal for racing sockless, and a moderately stiff R5 nylon sole (index 6) at 233 g. It is for triathletes who value comfort and quick changes over the last bit of stiffness; road riders who don’t do transitions are better served by a two-strap or dial shoe.
