SmartEVO compound

Pirelli’s all-round road compound for racing and for long, high-intensity rides: a single compound built on three different polymers. Pirelli says it gives grip in any weather and very low rolling resistance, while standing up to high mileage and rougher road surfaces.

TechBELT casing

Pirelli’s tube-type road casing with a puncture-resistant nylon layer under the tread. Pirelli builds it at 120, 60 or 26 TPI, from racing (120 TPI) to daily commuting (26 TPI); the P ZERO tyres use the 120 TPI version.

Frequently asked questions

Answered from this product’s published information. Questions about orders or anything else go to our team.

P ZERO Race or P ZERO Race RS?

Both are tube-type tyres on Pirelli’s 120 TPI TechBELT casing. The RS uses the SmartEVO² compound and, according to Pirelli, is faster, grippier and lighter than the more versatile P ZERO Race — 230 g against 235 g in 700x28 and 245 g against 260 g in 700x30 (Pirelli’s claimed weights). The P ZERO Race, with SmartEVO, is Pirelli’s all-rounder for high-intensity training and racing.

P ZERO Road or P ZERO Race?

Both are tube-type P ZEROs on a 120 TPI TechBELT casing. The P ZERO Road uses the EVO Compound and is Pirelli’s most all-round P ZERO, tuned for handling, comfort and protection. The P ZERO Race uses the SmartEVO compound and is built for high-intensity training and racing; it is also lighter — 235 g against 255 g in 700x28 (Pirelli’s claimed weights).

Tube type or TLR: which Pirelli road tyre should I choose?

TLR (tubeless ready) tyres can be set up tubeless: among the Pirelli road tyres we stock these are the P ZERO Race TLR SL-R, TLR RS, TLR and TLR 4S and the Cinturato EVO, and Pirelli marks them all hookless compatible. Tube-type tyres — the P ZERO Race RS, P ZERO Race, Race 4S, P ZERO Road and Cinturato Sport — are used with an inner tube, and the tyre itself can weigh less: the RS is a claimed 245 g in 700x30 against 310 g for the TLR RS. Pirelli recommends pairing the RS with its TPU SmarTUBE for a record system weight.

Can I use a Pirelli tube-type road tyre on a hookless rim?

Pirelli doesn’t mark its tube-type road tyres (P ZERO Race RS, P ZERO Race, Race 4S, P ZERO Road, Cinturato Sport) as hookless compatible: in its road catalogue the hookless badge appears only on tubeless-ready models. For a hookless rim, choose a TLR model such as the P ZERO Race TLR RS or the Cinturato EVO, and follow the pressure limits of Pirelli and your rim maker.

Description

The P ZERO Race is Pirelli’s all-round tube-type race tyre for high-intensity training and racing: the SmartEVO compound on the 120 TPI TechBELT casing. Pirelli says TechBELT improves reliability against punctures without adding weight, and SmartEVO improves grip on wet and dry asphalt over its previous compounds. It is the versatile member of the family; the RS is the lighter, grippier tube-type option and the TLR the tubeless one.

  • SmartEVO compound: grip in any weather and low rolling resistance, built for high mileage (Pirelli)
  • TechBELT casing, 120 TPI, with a puncture-resistant layer under the tread
  • Tread evolved from the P ZERO Velo through several World Tour seasons (Pirelli)
  • Tube type: use with an inner tube
