Tart cherry polyphenols

A standardised tart cherry extract (30 % polyphenols) rich in anthocyanins, which Santa Madre uses against exercise-induced inflammation and muscle damage.

Two probiotic strains

Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus salivarius (UCC18), 1,000 million of each per serving; Santa Madre says they reduce the gut inflammation caused by hard efforts so nutrients are absorbed better.

Ratio 1:1

Equal glucose-type carbohydrate and fructose, equalising the workload of the SGLT1 and GLUT5 transporters. Santa Madre says it pioneered the 1:1 ratio in its line in 2022 and uses it in its UNUSUAL range for strategies of 90 g per hour or more — which, it stresses, need a trained gut.

How do I take Unusual Recovery?

Unusual Recovery or Recovery Drink?

The Recovery Drink is the everyday post-training shake: 31 g of carbohydrate and 15 g of whey protein per 50 g serving (2:1). Unusual Recovery adds tart cherry polyphenols (1,500 mg), two probiotic strains and 600 mg of sodium to 40 g of carbohydrate and 13 g of protein (3:1), for stage races and the hardest days.
