Should I choose the S-Works Evade 4 or the Prevail 3?

The Evade 4 is the aero helmet: a closed shell shaped for speed, for racing and fast group rides. The Prevail 3 is the ventilated one, built around maximum airflow for heat and long climbs. Specialized quotes roughly 290 g for the Evade 4 and 250-260 g for the Prevail 3, so the Prevail is also the lighter of the two.

Is the Evade 4 faster than the Evade 3?

Not meaningfully. Specialized's own testing put the Evade 4 at about the same aerodynamic level as the Evade 3; what changed is cooling, reported as roughly 2.4% cooler, along with the new BOA FS2 fit system and Mips Air Node Pro. Upgrade for comfort and fit, not for a time gain.

What is Mips Air Node?

Air Node is a version of the Mips rotational-impact system built into the helmet's padding rather than added as a separate plastic liner. That keeps the vents clear and saves weight, which is why Specialized uses it on both the Evade 4 and the Prevail 3.

How do I choose the right helmet size?

Measure your head with a tape about one centimetre above the eyebrows, at the widest point, and match that to the model's size range. On the KASK Mojito 3 for example small covers 50-56 cm, medium 52-58 cm and large 59-62 cm. If you fall between two sizes, head shape decides it, so come and try both in the shop.

Mips Air Node

BOA Fit System FS2

The dial-and-wire retention system on the Evade 4. A micro-adjustable 360° wrap tightens evenly around the whole head rather than pulling from the back only.

4D Cooling

Specialized's name for the Evade 4's redesigned vents and internal channels, which pull air through an otherwise closed aero shell. It is where the Evade 4's roughly 2.4% cooling gain over the Evade 3 comes from.
