How do Sweet Protection helmets rate at Virginia Tech?

Virginia Tech’s Helmet Lab gives the Falconer 2Vi Mips five stars with a score of 8.453 and the Falconer Aero 2Vi Mips five stars with 9.121 (both tested 2023), and the Fluxer Mips four stars with 10.481 (tested 2026). Lower scores mean lower concussion risk in their tests. The Tucker III 2Vi Mips, the Falconer II and the Outrider are not in Virginia Tech’s ratings.

Falconer 2Vi or Falconer Aero 2Vi?

Same 2Vi platform, Mips Air, STACC ventilation and 360 Occigrip fit. The Aero adds detachable magnetic Aerocovers — on for speed or bad weather, off for climbs and heat — and a Fidlock magnetic buckle, at 300 g against 285 g (M/L, Sweet). Sweet describes the Falconer 2Vi as the lighter variant with two more vents for warmer days. Virginia Tech gives both five stars (8.453 for the Falconer 2Vi, 9.121 for the Aero).

What is Sweet Protection’s 2Vi®?

2Vi is Sweet Protection’s high-performance helmet platform, meant to raise safety and comfort without adding weight or volume. On the Falconer 2Vi and Falconer Aero 2Vi it combines Mips Air, a multi-density EPS structure with four impact shields, increased coverage and a variable-elasticity shell; on the Tucker III it pairs Mips Air Node with front and rear impact shields. The Fluxer and Outrider use Mips without the 2Vi platform.

Which Sweet Protection helmet size should I choose?

Measure your head just above the ears, keeping the tape level. Sweet’s road helmets come in S/M (53–56 cm), M/L (56–59 cm) and L/XL (59–61 cm); the Outrider uses S (52–55), M (54–58) and L (58–61). If you’re between sizes, the 360 Occigrip system adjusts height and width for a precise fit, and older models came with comfort pads in two thicknesses.

How do I look after a Sweet Protection helmet?

Sweet recommends wiping the helmet with a damp cloth; for a deeper clean, clean water up to 30 °C and mild soap only, then let it dry naturally away from direct heat. Avoid paint, stickers, solvents and cleaning chemicals, which can reduce protection. Sweet warns the helmet is damaged above 62 °C — for example in a car window on a sunny day — and must then be replaced, as it must if you modify any original part.

Mips® Air

Rotational motion is a common cause of concussion and brain injury in angled impacts. Sweet says the Mips Air system provides movement inside the helmet to help reduce rotational motion to the head in certain angled impacts; it suits helmets with minimal head contact and maximum ventilation.

360 Occigrip fit system

Easy on-the-fly adjustment of the helmet’s height and width with a low-profile dial and cradle, which Sweet says also stops the helmet rolling on your head.

STACC ventilation

STACC (Superficial Temporal Arteries Cooling Channel): Sweet’s vent-and-channel system that pulls air to critical areas of the head — the temporal arteries — for body-temperature regulation and comfort.

Ponytail compatible

The 360 Occigrip system has a wider rear opening for riders with longer hair, with intuitive height adjustment (Sweet).

Eyewear grippers

Grippers for storing your sunglasses on the helmet at any stage of the ride; Sweet designed the Falconer to integrate with its own eyewear.
