Both are Vittoria XC Race tyres with the same construction — Race Formulation Graphene + Silica on the 60 TPI nylon XC Race Casing, with a Bead Shield — so pick by terrain. Mezcal: a continuous centre tread for fast rolling, siped extensions for climbing and braking, and directionally siped shoulder knobs for hard, slippery surfaces; Vittoria says it is the choice of World and European XC Champions. Peyote: a low-profile alternating centre ribbon and Vittoria’s V-formation, which digs through loose terrain and clears debris — Vittoria’s tyre for fine loose conditions, positioned between its Terreno and Mezcal treads. In 29x2.4 black they weigh a claimed 740 g (Mezcal) and 750 g (Peyote).

What does the XC Race construction change?

Vittoria says its 60 TPI nylon Race Casing and XC Race construction give the Mezcal and Peyote 20% more speed, 8% more grip, 44% better puncture resistance and 9% more riding comfort than their predecessors, with consistent deformation across tread and sidewall for cross-country racing.

Is the Vittoria Mezcal XC Race hookless compatible?

Yes. Vittoria’s hookless compatibility table marks every size of the Mezcal XC Race as hookless compatible (29x2.25, 29x2.4). Check your rim maker’s limits and Vittoria’s ETRTO table of recommended rim widths on its product page.
