PureGrip Compound

A compound derived from activated silica that sits alongside BlackChili in Continental’s range. Continental says exceptionally good grip and durability are its distinguishing features; it is used in its Performance road and mountain-bike tyres.

E-bike approval

Continental draws on more than 100 years of moped and motorcycle tyres for its e-bike tyres. Tyres marked E25 are approved for e-bikes up to 25 km/h; those marked E50 are also certified for S-Pedelecs up to 50 km/h. Continental says their structure gives high puncture protection and low rolling resistance, and protects against the premature wear caused by the extra driving force.

Grand Sport Race or Ultra Sport III?

Both are PureGrip-compound, 180 TPI tube-type clinchers of similar weight (700x25: 270 g and 265 g, Continental). The difference is protection: the Grand Sport Race adds a NyTech puncture breaker on what Continental calls a proven racing contour, while the Ultra Sport III has no named breaker and is Continental’s tyre for riders new to road cycling. If flats worry you, take the Grand Sport Race; for even more protection, the Gatorskin.

Can I use this tyre on an e-bike?

Yes, on e-bikes up to 25 km/h: Continental’s catalogue marks it E25, its approval for e-bikes up to 25 km/h. For S-Pedelecs up to 50 km/h Continental requires an E50-marked tyre, such as the CONTACT Plus.
