What changed between the KASK Utopia and the Utopia Y?

The Y is the newer generation of the same aero helmet. Weights are close — KASK quotes 260 g for the Utopia and 266 g for the Utopia Y in a medium — and the changes are in comfort: the Octofit+ retention replaces Octofit, and Resistex Carbon padding across the front moves sweat out to the shell. Reviewers rate the Y as very comfortable, with aerodynamics in line with rather than ahead of its rivals.

KASK Nirvana or Utopia Y?

The Nirvana is the more extreme aero helmet: a deep shell that partly covers the ears, which KASK says is around 6 watts more efficient at 40 km/h than the Utopia Y, alongside claims of 35% less drag and 19% more ventilation than the class leaders it was measured against. It also carries the 3D-printed Multipod padding. The Utopia Y is the one to choose if you want an aero helmet that still looks and feels like a normal road helmet.

Do KASK helmets have MIPS?

No. Instead of the MIPS liner, KASK tests every helmet to its own WG11 rotational impact protocol, developed with the European standards working group that measures shock absorption from oblique as well as direct impacts. KASK helmets are also certified to EN 1078, CPSC 1203 and AS/NZS 2063.

How do I choose the right helmet size?

Measure your head with a tape about one centimetre above the eyebrows, at the widest point, and match that to the model's size range. On the KASK Mojito 3 for example small covers 50-56 cm, medium 52-58 cm and large 59-62 cm. If you fall between two sizes, head shape decides it, so come and try both in the shop.

WG11

KASK's own rotational-impact test protocol, developed with the European standards working group WG11. Every KASK helmet is tested for oblique as well as direct impacts, on top of EN 1078, CPSC 1203 and AS/NZS 2063 certification. KASK uses it instead of a MIPS liner.

Octo Fit

KASK's retention system: a rubberised dial you can adjust on the move, and a rear cradle with gel pads that pivots to follow the shape of your head. The Protone Icon and Elemento use the updated Octo Fit Plus.

Resistex Carbon

Padding carrying carbon fibre, placed across the front of the Utopia Y. It moves moisture out towards the shell instead of letting it sit on the brow, which is the difference you feel on a hot day in an aero helmet.
