Do I need SRM X-Power Direct pedals for the Unique Pro 4.0?

No. Q36.5 says the 4.0 keeps every classic 3-bolt mounting, so it works with most road pedals (Shimano SPD-SL, Look and similar). The fourth hole is only there for SRM’s X-Power Direct cleat, which is fixed at two points on the shoe’s long axis and fits only this shoe. If you do switch to those pedals, Q36.5’s setup guide says to lower the saddle by 6 mm compared with Shimano or Look pedals.

What does the Unique Pro’s 4.4 mm stack height mean?

Stack height is the distance from the pedal axle to the bottom of your foot. Q36.5 makes the Unique Pro’s carbon sole only 2.2 mm thick, for a 4.4 mm total that it calls the lowest on the market, and cites studies putting every millimetre less at about 1% more power through better rotation and aerodynamics — hence its claim of ‘at least 4%’ over your current shoes. That is Q36.5’s figure, not an independent measurement; the real-world gain depends on your current shoe and pedal.

How do Q36.5 shoes size — should I size down in the Unique Pro?

Q36.5 gives one chart for its shoes (EU 42 = 27 cm, 43 = 27.7 cm, 44 = 28.4 cm) plus two brand-comparison tables, and they differ by model. For the Unique Pro, Q36.5 pairs its EU 42 with a Specialized, Shimano, Nimbl or Sidi 43 and a Fizik or Rapha 42 — so if you wear a 43 in Specialized or Shimano, Q36.5 points you to a 42. For its Clima shoes, including the Dottore Clima, 42 equals a Specialized, Nimbl or DMT 42 and a Shimano or Sidi 43. road.cc’s tester found the Unique Pro 4.0 true to size against his other shoes, so measure your foot and check your own brand in the size guide. Why does the Unique Pro have no tongue?

It’s a signature of Q36.5’s race shoes: instead of a tongue, a proprietary mesh panel spans the bridge of the foot to maximise cooling, and Q36.5 says no other racing shoe has such a large ventilated surface. road.cc described it as a perforated sock-style liner with a mesh bridge panel and found it airy, with no hot spots under the twin BOA dials.

Carbon sole

The sole plate is made of carbon fibre rather than nylon or carbon-reinforced nylon. Carbon is stiffer and lighter, so less of your effort is lost to flex; the brand’s stiffness index is in the spec table.

Shoe + SRM X-Power Direct system

Q36.5 developed the Unique Pro 4.0 with SRM’s X-Power Direct road pedal as one system: it increases the contact area between shoe and pedal and, Q36.5 says, cuts total pedalling stack height by 6 mm against the current market-leading figures.

4-hole SRM X-Power Direct cleat compatibility

The SRM X-Power Direct cleat needs a fourth hole position on the sole; Q36.5 says this 4-hole layout is exclusive to the Unique Pro, which still takes every classic 3-bolt cleat, so the shoe works with most road pedals on the market.

Comfort and ventilation

A wider metatarsal area is meant to suit the widest range of feet, with a cupped heel for stability. There is no tongue: a proprietary mesh panel across the bridge of the foot maximises cooling, and Q36.5 says no other racing shoe offers such a large ventilating surface.

BOA Fit System, Li2 Dial D

Two BOA Li2 Dial D dials — a low-profile dial built for dual-dial systems — give zonal fit control, with the upper and lower dials adjusted separately. road.cc found the twin dials worked well together for a secure, even hold without pressure points.

Solestar insoles

Solestar insoles come included. Q36.5 says they place the foot in the Optimal Neutral Position to improve comfort, stability and propulsion.
